Storage Locations

A storage location is simply a place where parts sit: a workshop at home, a second workshop abroad, a field case, the van. The Stock List is organised around them — every part carries one stock figure per location, and the whole travel planning works between two of them.

Locations are the first thing to set up. Until one exists, the Add Partbutton stays disabled, because there would be nowhere to put the part.

Creating a location

Open Manage Locations in the header of the Stock List page and fill in the form at the bottom of the dialog:

• Name — the full name, for example Switzerland or Portugal. It has to be unique within your account; a second location with the same name is rejected.
• Code — a short label, for example CH or PT. The stock table has one column per location, and the column heading uses this code so the table stays readable with several locations. Without a code the full name is used instead.
• Notes — optional, for anything you want to remember about the place: a shelf number, who has a key, the address.

Editing and deleting

The same dialog lists every location with an edit and a delete button. Editing lets you rename a location or change its code at any time — the stock figures follow the location, so nothing is lost.

Deleting is the one action worth thinking about: the location disappears together with the stock figures recorded for it, but the parts themselves stay in your catalogue with their stock at the remaining locations. If you delete the wrong location, you do not lose your part list — only the counts that belonged to that place.

How many locations make sense

Two is the classic case and the one the Travel Planner is built for: a home base and a second base you travel to. There is no limit, though, and a third entry such as a field case or a van can be useful — the planner works between any two of them, in either direction.

Keep in mind that every location adds a column to the stock table. A handful of well-chosen places stays far more readable than one entry per drawer.
