License & Qualification Dates
The License & Qualification Dates section tracks your certification under the European Union's drone operation framework. You can maintain up to four separate qualification tiers, each with issue and expiry dates.
EU Drone Operations Framework
The EU categorizes drone operations into three categories (Open, Specific, and Certified) based on risk. Remote pilots must hold applicable certifications for their operation type. UAV Desk supports tracking of the main pilot qualification categories:
Qualification Categories
A1/A3 Operations
Open category operations with low risk. The A1/A3 certification allows you to operate in:
- A1 subcategory — Low altitude operations over unpopulated areas
- A3 subcategory — Operations in sparsely populated areas
Issue Date & Expiry Date: Enter when your A1/A3 qualification was issued and when it expires. Typical validity is five years from issue.
A2 Operations
Open category operations with direct involvement of people. The A2 certification allows operations over people with specific aircraft and compliance requirements.
Issue Date & Expiry Date: Enter the date you obtained your A2 qualification and its expiry date (typically five years from issue).
STS-01 (Specific Operations)
Special operational authorization for Specific category tasks in urban areas or over sensitive sites. STS-01 is a dedicated scenario for operations that fall outside the Open category.
Issue Date & Expiry Date: Enter the authorization date and expiry date if you hold STS-01 approval.
STS-02 (Specific Operations)
Another Specific operational scenario, commonly used for high-risk environments or specialized tasks. STS-02 authorization is issued for defined missions with specific conditions and requirements.
Issue Date & Expiry Date: Enter the authorization date and expiry date if you hold STS-02 approval.
Entering Dates
For each qualification tier, you have two date fields:
- Issue Date — When the qualification was issued or granted
- Expiry Date — When the qualification expires or must be renewed
Automatic Expiry Calculation
⚡ Quick Entry
When you enter an Issue Date, the system automatically calculates and fills the Expiry Date field with a date five years in the future. This is a convenience feature based on typical EU qualification validity periods. You can always override the calculated expiry date if your qualification has a different validity period.
Compliance and Reminders
The dates you enter here are used to:
- Flight Report Generation — Your active qualifications appear on generated flight logs
- Expiry Notifications — The system sends you reminders as your qualifications approach their expiry date
- Qualification Status Tracking — Your dashboard indicates which qualifications are current or recently expired
Updating Qualifications
When you renew or obtain a new qualification:
- Visit your User Settings
- Update the relevant qualification tier with the new Issue Date
- The expiry date will auto-calculate, or you can set it manually
- Save your changes
All future flight reports will then reflect your updated qualification status.
Best Practices
- Keep your qualification dates current and accurate — they appear on official flight reports
- Renew qualifications before expiry to maintain continuous operational authority
- Use the system's reminders as a heads-up to initiate renewal procedures in advance
- If you do not yet have a certain qualification, leave those date fields empty
